According to the American Community Survey of
the U.S. Census Bureau, the Asian Indian population in the United States
grew from almost 1,679,000 in 2000 to 2,570,000 in 2007: a growth rate
of 53%, the highest for any Asian American community, and among the
fastest growing ethnic groups in the United States. Asian Indian
Americans are the third largest Asian American ethnic group, after
Chinese Americans and Filipino Americans.
Asian Indians are now the largest Asian American group in the Midwest
(at 390,643 followed by the next largest group Chinese at 256,705) and
the South (at 370,553 followed by the next largest group Chinese at
278,590), according to Census Bureau’s American Community Survey 2005
The U.S. states with the largest Asian Indian populations are
California, New York, New Jersey, Texas, and Illinois. There are also
large Asian Indian populations in Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan,
Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, and Ohio as well. |

Asian Indians are very well educated and many are doctors,
engineers, and technology experts.

The community is well represented as small business owners, motel
owners and taxi cab drivers. About 55% of motels in the U.S. are
owned by Asian Indians.

Education: 75% of Asian
Indians who work have a bachelors degree or higher.

Language: Asian Indians also
have a good comprehension of the English language and thus often get
an edge over other immigrants overseas.
